RAF Museum

Helping to tell the stories of the RAF through experiential retail

Services

Opportunity

The RAF Museum curates and conserves the important artefacts and stories of the RAF.

In 2018, the museum benefitted from a large scale regeneration project and STAMP were asked to design and deliver the commercial spaces.

Approach

Our experience in museum store design led us to develop a category led solution that catered to a customers as diverse as school children and WWII fighter pilots.

Solution

A blended space where the museum narrative flows through the store to bring the product and the stories of the RAF to life.

Premium products are given hero areas supported with archive media
Airfix is a popular range and is supported with expert-made examples to inspire young model makers
Low fixtures in wide aisles allow younger guests to shop pocket money products, whilst maintaining flow for larger groups.
Museum wide experiences like sitting in a Spitfire are communicated through digital touch points
Bespoke light fittings add to the broad palette of RAF inspired textures and finishes
Karen Whitting, Director of Content and Programmes, RAF Museum Stamp worked in a highly collaborative and consultative way to design and deliver a stunning new shop as part of the transformation of the RAF Museum

The resulting space has shown in a significant uplift in sales, and the innovative design will enable us to react quickly to range changes and special events.
